WE ARE THETA ETA

Welcome to the storied legacy of the Theta Eta Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity at Sam Houston State University. Established with Colony Status on April 22, 1987, and officially installed on May 13, 1989, our chapter has been a cornerstone of brotherhood and excellence for decades. In a momentous leap forward, we broke ground at 322 Bearkat Blvd on a sprawling 2,800 square-foot Fraternity House on January 26, 2001. Nestled on a lush 2-acre estate owned by the Gulf Coast Alumni Corporation (GCAC), the house welcomed its first occupants in November of the same year. Through these doors have passed hundreds of brothers, many of whom have soared to impressive heights in business and life.

THETA ETA CHAPTER AT A GLANCE

A MESSAGE FROM THE GCAC PRESIDENT

The chapter just completed an outstanding Fall 2023 Rush, culminating in 19 pledges accepting bids out of 137 total. This ranked third out of a dozen fraternities, just behind Phi Gamma Delta (25) and Sigma Chi (20). We did finish ahead of Kappa Alpha (15), Delta Tau Delta (13), Alpha Tau Omega (10), Sigma Phi Epsilon (9), Tau Kappa Epsilon (8), Beta Psi Chi Christian Fraternity (7), Alpha Gamma Rho (5), Pi Kappa Alpha (4) and Phi Delta Theta (2)

I can’t say enough about the hard work of the chapter and it definitely paid off. We had brothers working freshman orientation and selling Theta Chi, as well as events last Spring and this Summer to get to know potential new members. We also hosted quite a few prospects at our Astros event where they got to see “Theta Chi for Life” in person.

I would also like to thank the following alumni for attending rush parties and sharing stories about what Theta Chi means to them: Chapter Advisor Joe Reed, Will Haseltine, Monty Meave, Heath Manuel, and Josh Wagner. The alumni support the chapter receives was recognized by rushes as well as our newly renovated fraternity house, all were very impressed and many said we had the best house on campus.

I encourage all alumni to attend an event this Fall to meet the brothers and pledges, such as a pregame Bearkat tailgate, Homecoming, chapter meeting, or initiation later this Fall.

As I referenced earlier, the house renovations are essentially complete other than a few small items. At this point we are looking into enhancements to the property such as additional parking and a building for events, parties, and chapter meetings.

Monty Meave has generously donated a 1600 square foot building and we are in the process of planning the prep work and installation. If you would like to assist, financially or logistically, please reach out to myself, a GCAC board member or Monty direct.

I would also like to thank all of the brothers below that stepped up over the last year in helping us keep the house and assisting the chapter, both financially and with other assistance. I know I’ll probably miss some but here they are:

One thing I’ve learned over the last year is how much of the chapter’s budget goes towards liability insurance and annual member fees. As they try to keep dues low since almost all of our members are working while going to school, a way to assist is to join our Men Since ’56 giving program. There’s strength in numbers and all donations add up. These allow us to maintain and improve the house, plan for long-term needs with our house and property, and assist the chapter with their needs, such as sending brothers to Convention next Summer in New Orleans.

If you can help, please click on the link below for options, or reach out to myself or another board member.

Once again, I’m very excited about the current state of our chapter and alumni group, and look forward to greatness in the future
